This department was set up in 1970, with the automation instrument teaching and research section being its predecessor. It was renamed as research institution of observation and control technology and system. And its name was changed into department of measurement and science. It started admitting undergraduates in1971; it obtained the right to confer master degree in automation instrumentation and installation in 1983 and started admitting postgraduates. It was authorized to confer doctoral degree in 1988.
The discipline devotes itself to developing signal perception, signal processing, advanced integration of instrument system and scientific instruments oriented by high-performance information measurement. Now, it undertakes national level longitudinal research projects, such as national key research and development plan, national 863 project, NSFC and national international technology cooperation projects, and various scientific research and technological development projects of local governments and major enterprises. Its scientific orientations include:
1.High-performance design of sensing electronics system;
2.Method of perceiving information source and new type sensor;
3.Modern well logging technology and instruments;
4.Theory and technology of magnetic nano temperature imaging science.
This discipline has formed a academic team with terrific research skills. There are 10 teachers, including 3 professors, 5 associated professors and 2 lecturers. Nearly 50 doctors and postgraduates are studying in the college.
Measurement technology and instrument is the subdivided major field of instruments in information science and technology, mainly researching in relevant theories and technologies involved in information acquisition and processing. Its major system is based on information science, electronics, optics, machinery, computer technology and so on. Major fields that it covers and students’ occupation directions are development and application of instruments in various fields, automatic control instruments in industrial process, research and development of scientific instruments, science and technology related to measuring industry and circuit design and application related to electronic system.
This discipline focuses on cultivating high level scientific and technological talents and leaders in the instrument industry for the country. Major courses include circuit theory, fundamental of analog electronics technology, fundamental of digital electronics technology, principle of single chip computer, principle of micro-computer, principle of automatic control, principle and application of sensing, digital signal processing, virtual instrument, measurement and control system and instrument design.
Most teachers in this discipline has successively visited or studied abroad for a long time. Prestigious professors at home and abroad are invited to hold academic lecture every year. It has established stable channels of international academic exchange and carried out substantial international cooperation with many famous universities at abroad, such as Braunschweig Technical University in German, University of Brasilia, National Chiao Tung University and National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan etc. It undertook national level special international technology cooperation projects, Frame-work Program of European Union and scientific and technological cooperation projects between China and Poland governments. It organized the international conference between NANOSMAT’Asia and IWMPI. Foreign experts include Pro. Paulo Morais (2012.9-2015.9) who is a national distinguished expert and Pro. Peter Gruenberg (2013-2016) who has won the Nobel Prize in physics.
Disciplinary Advantages and Features
1) Gradually forming the major orientation researching and developing petroleum logging tool based on high temperature electronics, and making an important contribution to completing the first nuclear magnetic resonance logger in our country;
2) The research of temperature measurement technology based on magnetic nanoparticle ascending international advancement,which once won the first prize of science and technology (technological invention) in Hubei province;
3) Successful application of electronic measurement instruments based on advanced electronics in the fields of electric system and giant planes.
